POLICE have launched an investigation after a woman was found collapsed in the car park of a remote Pendle sailing club.

The incident happened at about 6pm on Thursday when paramedics were called to Burnwain Sailing Club, by Burnwain Reservoir, Foulridge.

They discovered the woman collapsed on the floor.

She was taken to Burnley General Hospital where she was in a coma.

The woman's identity still remains a mystery and police are now trying to trace the woman's family.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Simon Cheyte of Pendle CID said the woman had no injuries and officers believed she had not been attacked.

He said: "She has not been able to offer an explanation as to why she was in that condition.

"She had no identification on her so we do not know who she is or why she was there."

On Thursday night the woman woke up briefly and told doctors she was called Beatrice.

The woman is described as in her 40s, heavy build with shoulder length dark hair.

She was wearing a light blue and white striped jumper, navy pin-stripe trousers and a thigh length brown sheepskin coat.

She was carrying a light brown leather handbag and had a gold ring on her right hand inscribed with the letter B.
