Police were called after it was alleged a councillor urinated in the garden of David Beckham's sister.

Lynne Beckham, who lives in Tollesbury, claims Mark Durham went to the toilet behind bushes at her home.

She alleges he was caught on her doorbell video and she then confronted him.

Mr Durham, a Maldon District and Essex County Councillor, is currently up for re-election in the Wickham Bishops and Woodham ward on Maldon District Council.

It is understood he was canvassing for votes when the incident happened on Saturday, April 6.

Lynne told of the row on Facebook where she said police were looking into it.

She told The Sun: “It was disgusting. I shouted, ‘You weed on my property!’ He said, ‘I apologise’.

“He shouldn’t do that. There are public toilets there. As a councillor he must know that. He could have knocked on someone’s door to use theirs or gone to the pub.”

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We received reports that a man had urinated in the garden of a property in Tollesbury at 11.30am on April 6.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish whether a criminal offence has been committed."

Mr Durham is also a county councillor for the Heybridge and Tollesbury ward and was formerly leader of Maldon District Council.

Fellow Tory county councillor Kevin Bentley said: "This is a very regrettable situation and on behalf of the local Conservative Association I would like to apologise to anyone who has been affected by this matter.

"I understand that Cllr Durham has voluntarily stepped down from the Maldon Conservative Group and we shall be holding an investigation and the appropriate action will be taken against the individual concerned."

We attempted to contact Mr Durham for comment.
