My wife and I exercise our dog two or three times a day, and cannot walk anywhere without seeing the mess left by unsupervised dogs left to roam the streets alone, or whose owners just don’t clean up after them.

We always have doggy bags and never allow our dog off his lead.

How frustrating and upsetting, therefore, for my wife to be walking our dog in the local park recently, only to be berated by two ‘ladies’ who shouted from across the park to ensure she cleared up any mess left by our dog.

My wife responded by saying that not only had our dog done nothing, but that she had bags (which she showed them) in case they were needed.

No apology was forthcoming. They obviously believe all dog owners are irresponsible.

This problem will only be tackled effectively if more publicity is given to cases where owners are found guilty (£1,000 fines, I believe, but has it ever happened?) Noel Eke, Darwen.
