I AM surprised and disgusted at the proposal to pull down the Memorial Wing of the old Infirmary building (LT, March 26).
Surprise that the people of Blackburn ever held the belief that the council and the contractors were ever going to preserve this important piece of our local heritage.
Blackburn has form for demolishing the built history of Blackburn.
The Harrison Centre is only one example of how buildings have been allowed to become dilapidated and to get to point were demolition is the only option.
Blackburn is becoming ever more divorced from its proud past, whether as a result of the wanton destruction of the traditional terrace houses, many of which had nothing wrong with them, or the replacement of our mills with lifeless and characterless plastic and grey steel sheds.
Action needs to be taken now to preserve our heritage and to ensure that our future generations have a link to their past.
Andy Henderson, Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn.
