JACK Straw's attempting (LT, July 20) to pass off the Scottish Parliament as being effectively controlled by Westminster is disingenuous.

The fact is English undergraduates pay top up fees and Scots don't, English care home residents pay for their care, Scots don't, etc.

If what Straw says is true, this is further proof of a need for an English Parliament, which those same Westminster MPs won't find so easy to control.

The union served its purpose a long time ago. There is no need for it now, it serves only nostalgia.

England deserves real democracy.
