IN response to J Beardwood’s letter (LT, July 13), Gordon Brown has a lot to answer for: he borrowed and spent money like it was going out of fashion.
At one time, our money was going to plant trees in Somalia.
Gordon Brown sold off all our gold reserves (look at the price of gold now) and why did Mr Brown not come down hard on the banks before they got us into such a mess, or are our banks a law unto themselves?
I am of the impression that Mr Brown did not listen very well to his advisers or MPs.
That’s why at the last election the people of this country had, had enough and therefore the Labour MPs were relegated to the back benches.
These MPs have only their leader to blame.
Now the coalition government has to pick up the pieces and we will have a bitter medicine to swallow before we can come out of this mess.
And no doubt the coalition will be seen by some people as the baddies through no fault of their own.
H HAMER, Blackburn.
