With reference to the poster campaign (LT, May 17) at the bottom of Montague Street, Blackburn. Urban renewal and regeneration is necessary and comes at a price, but it is highly irresponsible when local history and heritage is lost in the process.
The old police station, in King Street, may not be picturesque compared to other buildings of its era, but serious consideration is required to prevent further damage to Blackburn’s past. The state of disrepair must not be an added excuse.
Whether we blame local politicians or business people, the battle is on to preserve the last few listed buildings remaining in Blackburn.
N Momoniat (Mr), Blackburn.
