I’m sure from all the letters that the council tax payers of East Lancashire would be more than happy to pay a little more tax if we could employ an adequate number of dog and fly tipping wardens. And maybe the government could bring in some stronger legislation.
Instead of having one dog warden for the whole of Hyndburn, maybe we could combine the wardens from each borough into an East Lancashire team and sweep each borough on a week-by-week basis.
I think that would be much more effective than the system we have, the only extra cost being the transport cost and probably a bit more admin.
This is the kind of policy they are using in every other sphere of government but, unlike some of the other schemes, namely the combining of Blackburn and Burnley A & E departments, I think this one might work.
Come on, magistrates, let’s see some realistic fines so that dog fouling and littering laws can be vigorously applied and paid for by the perpetrators.
