BEFORE Blackburn with Darwen unitary council was created, we used to get some Lancashire County Council budget information leaflets posted through the door.
I am sure it used to say that the LCC budget was about £1,000million.
Of that education accounted for about £650million.
The budget for education was much bigger than others such as the police and the roads.
It seems that since moving to unitary status, how we stand with regards to education budgets must be very important more so than any talk about highways or other issues.
Given that Blackburn is an urban priority zone I would expect that other parts of LCC would have been subsidising the greater need in Blackburn for education spending per child.
So surely we have lost out by becoming a unitary council?
