I TOTALLY agree with Tony Heyes (LT, January 8) re clearing the snow from the front of your houses.

But why on earth didn’t the council clear the bus routes in Darwen? Then people could at least have walked to the ends of their roads.

They gritted Earnsdale Road but left all the rest of the route, and it was the same on all other routes.

Bins were emptied at Christmas but not after.

Not everyone owns a car and a computer and there were lots of old people stranded in their homes.

Years ago the council used to send the unemployed and volunteers to do all the roads.

Tockholes and Hoddlesden were cut off with snow drifts, people had coal fires and used to throw ashes on the pavements and roads as well.

Let’s have some thought for our disabled and the elderly, too.
