During the recent adverse weather conditions, some residents of Alpine Grove/ Higher House Close, Livesey, like many others, have found it extremely unsafe to even consider using their cars or going out.

At one stage, one of our grit bins was refilled but late one night one nasty individual chose to drive up in a 4x4 vehicle and take what was left in the bin.

As conditions deteriorated, some residents elected to call on our ward councillor, Brian Gordon, to ask for his advice and help in getting some grit delivered, although we appreciated that many other people were in exactly the same situation. The council were faced with decisions and we fully understood that whilst side streets were hazardous, main roads and motorways would always take priority.

Councillor Gordon did not ignore our concerns and, despite the conditions, he went the extra mile and came to Alpine Grove/ Higher House Close to assess the situation for himself.

Early the following day, the council delivered the much sought-after grit which has eased the dangerous conditions of our roads. Brian deserves our appreciation for the genuine support he gave and we also thank Pat, Brian’s wife, who took message after message from concerned residents.

We also take this opportunity to thank the council for refilling our grit boxes. They have done their best given the circumstances.
