I FEEL I must put pen to paper about the direct debit payments to energy companies.

If you pay by direct debit and get an estimated reading, it is common practice to ring in with your actual reading.

Then your payment should be adjusted correctly. However, check and double check your bank statement. Mine jumped from £35 to £55 for gas, then back to £45, finally settling on £50.

Can somebody tell me why payments need to go up when people are substantially in credit?

So it seems you can’t win if you pay by direct debit or prepayment card.

Scrap the VAT on fuel and let’s get this situation monitored.
