AFTER reading the front page article ‘Orbital Disaster’ with regards the possible scrapping of the plan to build the Freckleton Street link road in Blackburn, I might have come up with a solution.

Let’s build a second bridge over the graveyard and the listed building.

I’m sure English Heritage and the Civic Society would approve. English Heritage might even make a cash contribution.

It would also bring the visitors flocking back to Blackburn in their thousands.

There would be tailbacks at the Grimshaw Park traffic lights, as people patiently awaited their turn to experience the delights of driving over the Wainwright Bridge, gently gliding down the other side into the long right hand curve by the fire station, then a quick swing to the left as they began to ascend the second bridge, then down the steep descent into Montague Street and eventually up the slow but steady climb to Barbara Castle Way. It could be Blackburn’s answer to the Big One.

Councillor Alan Cottam could organise coach rides on the route for senior citizens. Most would never want to use public transport again (problem solved councillor).

I often get flashes of inspiration when I’ve had a few drinks. If Blackburn with Darwen Council would like to send me a couple of crates of wine and a few bottles of spirits, I’m sure I could come up with some more good ideas.

They already have my address at the Town Hall, their finance department is always sending me reminders to pay my council tax, usually the day after I have been in and paid the latest instalment.

All we need now is a name for the second bridge. I’m proposing that we call it the Diana Vickers Bridge!
