IN FEBRUARY of this year, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, expressed his admiration for Islam and suggested the uptake of certain elements of Sharia Law into mainstream legislation.

This attracted a barrage of criticism from all fronts.

Now the Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali proposes the evangelising of British Muslims. In all honesty, if he had any strength of ground in what he is proposing, his first port of call would be the falling attendances and the empty churches that are besetting Christianity in a country that is largely atheist.

Dr Nazir-Ali, I am sure, could cite several reasons to justify his tenet.

But social problems are abound in all communities and these are challenges to overcome.

Muslims have great respect for Christianity.

It was a precursor for the emergence of Islam and the return of Jesus the Messiah is integral in the faith.

If the Bishop has seriously contemplated his vision then he also needs to address the new forms of worship such as Rave Churches that have sprung up to attract and entertain.

Otherwise his call for conversion is awfully hollow.
