AFTER reading the article regarding breastfeeding, in (LT, April 21), I agree that mothers should be fully supported with breastfeeding in public and that there are benefits for the baby health-wise.
However, I disagree that promotion of powdered milk should be banned because there is far too much pressure on mothers to breastfeed.
Not all mothers can cope with breastfeeding and sometimes the baby can't "latch on" to the mother's breast.
This can make the mother feel a failure and sometimes lead to post-natal depression.
Also if a mother chooses to bottle feed she might feel discriminated against if she does not want to breastfeed.
The primary care trust seems only to care about statistics and targets and not personal choice.
A mother should be entitled to feed her baby whichever way she wants and there should be full support either way.
It has not done my son any harm bottle feeding him. He is a healthy young boy, so I feel the primary care trust is becoming prejudiced against bottle feeding.
