I AM writing in response to letters about all the different motoring offences that are taking place in and around this town.

I travel from Blackburn to Preston and back along Preston New Road every day. There seems to be another bit of wall knocked down, another gatepost knocked down, another hole in the hedgeway, another lamp-post knocked down every time I drive down there.

I can't say I'm surprised, because the standard of driving on that stretch of road is absolutely terrifying. One major problem is there is only one speed camera on the whole length of that road. I thought the idea behind these cameras was to place them in known accident black-spots.

I know it's not that long ago since one poor fellow was killed while standing virtually in his own front garden and I seem to remember certain people saying something would be done, either more cameras or traffic calming, but it's never materialised.

I am sure all the relevant people are fully aware of what I am talking about, because I am sure that the thousands of drivers and riders who travel that road every day certainly area.
