THE problem of Iraq is an awful position for any country. Our men are being killed in all sorts of traps and bomb ambushes, not in face to face fighting, but by sneaky and underhand tactics.
This is done to an army, not of occupation, but an army sent to bring peace to a country that suffered executions and oppression from Saddam Hussein.
We committed our forces to this policy and it is costing out people dearly.
To withdraw would be an insult to the men who have lost their lives in this conflict. We must make sure our men still out there have the very best of equipment and air support that is possible.
Together with the extra strength now being given America, this will be some help in some time ahead.
But politically we must press on for Iraq to be responsible for its policy and rule.
This now is priority number one for Tony Blair and his government.
GEORGE WELSH.
