I WRITE in response to the article on rubbish collection and agree that it causes street litter.

Every fortnight I ring about all the rubbish in the back streets and the boxes blowing down the road.

My local councillor knows about it and sends messages to Peter Hunt at Blackburn with Darwen Council, but it takes a week to get sorted and the day after is bin day and it's as bad again.

On our block there are four people who recycle. One at the top and my next door neighbours and myself. One of the neighbours is 80 years old and I am a senior citizen. We drag the boxes through our homes (they are quite heavy) dirtying our carpets and quite often we have to drag them back because if the van can't get near they leave the box.

We used to get our bins emptied weekly and it wasn't a problem. One job, one wage.

Now we are paying three wages, one for the paper, one for the plastics and one for the dustbins. It's disgusting.

I have also experienced dirty, wet paper sacks which I have to keep in my house.

I was assured by Peter Hunt at least six months ago that the paper sack would be replaced with a better idea.

What happened?
