I COULD not agree more about the removal of the cenotaph from Towneley Park, Burnley, to the town centre. I am chairman of Burnley and Pendle Ex-Naval Mens Association. I served in the RN over four years during the war. The Naval Association, tried for such a move about 40 years ago but to no avail, we were told by the council that the cost would be too prohibitive.
I have, come next January, been in our association for 55 years and many have found it difficult even to attend the cenotaph in the town centre. I know Eric Midgley very well and I wish him well in his effort and I am wondering if the lottery could donate a large amount for the cenotaph to be located.
