POLICE officers behind the county's Operation Summer Nights campaign to cut down on yobbish behaviour have joined forces with the Drinkaware Trust in the latest move to curb heavy drinking.

The two groups have created a special radio advert that aims to get people across Lancashire to drink sensibly this summer.

The hard-hitting advert will make people consider how alcohol affects their behaviour and be will be broadcast on 97.4 Rock FM from Monday.

The cost for the advert has been met by a grant from the Drinkaware Trust, a charitable organisation that offers funding to campaigns like Operation Summer Nights that promote responsible drinking.

In the summer months there is traditionally an increase in crime and anti-social behaviour that is often fuelled by alcohol.

Operation Summer Nights is a crime reduction and community reassurance campaign that aims to tackle and prevent alcoholfuelled anti-social behaviour across Lancashire by encouraging people to dink sensibly over the summer.

Assistant Chief Constable Mike Cunningham said: "We are delighted that our bid to the Drinkaware Trust has been successful and enabled us to get our Operation Summer Nights key messages on air. "
