A TEENAGER was set upon by a gang who stamped on her with stiletto heels in a vicious attack outside a Blackburn off licence.

Now the mum of 13-year-old Katy Daley has started a petition calling for the closure of the Top Shop Off Licence in Shadsworth.

She collected more than 400 signatures in just two hours.

The objectors claim that the store has sold alcohol to children, which the shop's owner strongly denies. But trading standards officers say they are investigating the claims and may carry out a test purchasing operation.

The shop's owner, Shiraz Younus, has hit back at his critics and said it was the responsibility of parents to stop their kids loitering on the streets.

Joanna Daley, 43, said her daughter had been drinking vodka which may have been bought at the shop on Friday.

She said that, at 6.30pm, Katy was kicked to the ground and stamped on by a gang of around five yobs outside the store in Ballantrae Road.

Katy was left with a broken tooth, a hole in the top of her thigh and an injury to her head.

The mum-of-three said: "You don't expect them to be able to purchase alcohol at that age or to be drinking at that time. She was attacked by a boy and four girls. She has been left with a hole in the top of head. She managed to crawl to the ginnel where someone found her and came to get us. Katy is now too petrified to go out."

But Mr Younus said his shop "never" serves children with alcohol.

He said: "We have been checking IDs and taking the names down of all those who are underage. It's the parents' responsibility to look after their children." He had been liaising with police officers on the matter.

Shadsworth ward councillor Jim Blackburn said he has reported the concerns to the licensing committee.

He added: "There will be a test purchasing exercise carried out by Trading Standards and the matter will then go before a panel of three councillors who will then decide what action to take. It is clearly a major problem in this area. It's too severe to allow it to carry on."

A police spokesman said: "We got a call to say a 13-year-old girl had been attacked and had marks on her body from stiletto heels.

"We are investigating the incident and the community beat manager has been made aware of concerns in the area."
