YOBS who fired a paintball gun from a luxury car on a spree through Rossendale and Hyndburn and being hunted.

Police said the gun was fired at passers-by from a Range Rover in Rising Bridge and Accrington over the weekend.

The first incident happened around 11.15pm on Saturday when a rear-seat passenger in a black Range Rover Sport fired a paintball gun five times at a 28-year-old man, hitting him in the arm, as he walked past the Rising Bridge petrol station in Manchester Road.

The second incident took place a few minutes later as a 20-year-old woman was walking near to the Tesco Express store in Abbey Street.

The same vehicle pulled up alongside her and fired paint at her head. She suffered an injury which caused swelling and bruising to her inner ear.

Police believe other people may have been targeted and are appealing for anyone who has been hit with a paintball gun in similar circumstances to come forward.

The Range Rover is described as having tinted windows and police are appealing to anybody who might have seen it driving around the area at the time to come forward.

PC Paul Meades said: “This is a serious offence on innocent people which could have had far more serious consequences.

“I would appeal to anyone who knows the people responsible or anyone with any information that could assist with our investigation to come forward and call Lancashire Police.”
