A BLONDE burglar broke into a rural home and stole a laptop, jewellery and Mexican pesos.

The woman targeted the house while the occupants were out on the morning of Salterforth Fun Day in the village.

Police have issued CCTV images of the woman.

She broke in through a patio door and stole the items at around 6.50am on Sunday, June 10, at an address on Salterforth Lane.

PC Nicola Heap said: “On the day of this offence the annual Salterforth Fun Day was taking place on the playing fields opposite the address so there may have been several people in the area, organising the event at this time.

“The clothing of this woman is very distinctive. If anyone is able to identify her please contact the Pennine Serious and Acquisitive Crime Team.”

The image show a white woman of medium build with bleached blonde hair with a black hair band, bright pink hooded jumper, blue jeans and black boots carrying two dark coloured bags.

Jeff Haydock, who campaigned to introduce a ‘no cold calling zone’ to the village following an attack on war veteran Bob Schofield in 2008, said the burglary was a ‘bitter blow’.

He said: “This incident is extremely disappointing. Let’s hope that someone recognises this woman and she is caught.

“The no cold-calling zone has been very effective and there has been a dramatic drop in the numbers, which is encouraging. Thankfully incidents like this are rare.”
