EAST LANCASHIRE’S last remaining Little Chef has closed after the restaurant chain said it would shut nearly half its outlets.

The Rising Bridge branch, on the A680, near Accrington, did not open on yesterday following the announcement Little Chef will close 67 of its 161 sites.

The Rising Bridge branch was one of only three Little Chef’s in Lancashire, but contractors boarded up the site on Wednesday evening.

Locations in Clapham, near Lancaster and Bickerstaff, Ormskirk remain listed on the company’s website, whereas the Rising Bridge restaurant was taken off the site yesterday.

Staff at the Rising Bridge Little Chef would not comment on the closure when contacted on Wednesday.

Little Chef said the branches closing were ones that have been trading unprofitably for a number of years.

Nationally, the closures are expected to result in the loss of between 500 and 600 full and part-time jobs.

Chairman of the chain, Graham Sims, said following a thorough review of the business they had decided to close a number of sites.
