AN X Factor-style vote will determine which local band headlines Darwen Live festival next year.

The public will vote for the act that will top the bill on one day of the two-day festival next summer.

An announcement was made recently that, due to increased funding, the event was reverting back to its two-day format.

Coun Trevor Maxfield, who is on the organising committee for Darwen Live, said the decision will free up funds to be used in other areas of the event.

He said: “If we have a local band headlining one night it means we can spend more money on getting a bigger headline act the next night.

“When Darwen Music Live started, it was all about local bands, so we’re getting back to that a now.”

The website which will host the vote has yet to be announced.

Musician Gary Ward, of Darwen Music Projects, revealed talks are taking place about bringing back a big name headliner from previous years.

He said: “I can’t say too much about it because talks are at an early stage, but it would be a popular move.

"Discussions are ongoing though and we may be able to make an announcement soon.

“With the public vote, people have really got a taste for the format through reality shows.

"Some people felt it would be good to have a local take on this year’s event so they are going to have a say on who performs on the open air stage.”
