A TALENTED East Lancashire teenager is one step closer to becoming Britain’s next singing sensation.

Rebecca Holt, originally from Blackburn, has been given the big thumbs-up by judges at the Open Mic UK auditions with an acoustic rendition of Eva Cassidy’s version of Ain’t No Sunshine.

The 14-year-old former Westholme pupil, now living in Spain has, made it through to the regional finals of the national talent competition.

Rebecca, who plays piano and saxophone, will perform in Manchester on October 16 in the hope of securing a place in the national finals at London’s O2 Arena.

Open Mic UK 2011 searches for the UKs best singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres to find the winner who will receive a breakthrough recording contract.

The competition is divided into age categories; 16 and under, 17-22 and 23 and over; all types of singers, vocal performers, groups and acoustic singer/songwriters are invited to enter.

There’s £50,000 in prizes this year and the overall winner will be offered a recording contract, with up to £30,000 investment.
