A GANG leader who has terrorised residents in Padiham has been told he must behave for the next two years.

Fifteen-year-old Oliver Smith was said to be a ‘constant thorn in the side’ of residents and youth workers in the market town for 18 months.

His abusive behaviour, often while drunk, became so unruly he was banned from Padiham Youth Club.

Reedley magistrates have now imposed a two-year anti-social behaviour order on Smith, from Herbert Street, Padiham.

Smith would also regularly run amok in local stores and throw stones at passing cars and shops, the court heard.

Under the ASBO the teenager is not allowed in Padiham town centre, except while accompanied by an adult relative.

He is also banned from acting anti-socially anywhere in Burnley borough and must not be in possession of alcohol or drunk in a public place.

Pc Rob Grey, community beat manager, said: “Oliver Smith has been a constant thorn in the side of residents. People in Padiham need protecting from this kind of behaviour.”

Ringleader Smith and pals would often roam the town’s streets until the early hours, looking for trouble, carrying out vandalism and intimidating passers-by.
