FIRE crews from all over East Lancashire are tackling a large blaze on Darwen Moors today.

The fire started shortly after midday and eight crews from Lancashire and three from Greater Manchester attended the blaze, near Turton.

Inspector Graham Ashcroft, of Blackburn police, said: “Our officers assisted the fire service with road closures in the area, with Broadhead Road, in Turton closed.

“It is hoped that the scene will be clear around 8pm.”

It is the second moorland fire on Darwen Moors in three days, after 10 fire engines attended a blaze in Belmont on Friday.
