THE new £30million Belgrave Heights housing development in Darwen was officially launched by mayor Dorothy Walsh as bulldozers moved in to clear the area.
The development on the former Crown Wallcoverings site has required removal of the factory's 200ft chimney.
Now residents will see the main huge factory building, off Bolton Road, slowly pulled down to make way for a terrace-effect estate of homes and apartments.
Pictured, watching the mayor, are ENCIA Demolition chief Peter Hardman, assistant site boss Derek Hull, site manager Chris Jenkins and contract manager Ray Griffin.
