A 13-YEAR-OLD boy who has terrorised Burnley Wood residents for two years has been given an anti-social behaviour order.

Kyle Barnes, of Dall Street, has been banned from entering the grounds of Unity College, in Towneley Holmes, unless for an educational reason, and from throwing objects at people or buildings.

The teenage tearaway has run up a 'huge' list of misdemeanours in the area.

They include throwing stones and other objects at houses, entering empty houses, truancy, brandishing a metal stick in the streets and throwing mud ‘bombs’ at pedestrians and cars.

Barnes was banned from the grounds of Unity College under an Acceptable Behaviour Contract with police in December 2008, but he has breached this a number of times.

On March 24 this year a member of staff spotted him riding his bike on school grounds, he was then verbally abusive to her and threatened to cycle over her unless she went back in school.

And on March 27, Barnes and several other youths were reported to police after being verbally abusive and doing monkey impressions to staff at Amit Stores, in Parliament Street.

Yesterday magistrates at Reedley imposed a two year order on Barnes.

Chair of the bench Kathleen Belton said: “There have been a considerable number of incidents, not just one or two, it is a huge amount.

“There has been threatening and abusive behaviour towards members of the public and staff at Unity.”

Duncan Nightingale, representing Burnley Borough Council and the police, said: “An anti-social behaviour order is very necessary in this case, and this is conceded by Kyle himself.”

Mark Williams, defending Barnes, said: “Kyle accepts that most of the incidents mentioned occurred, although he does dispute one or two.

“He has complied with an interim order and a recent referral order and was praised for the work and effort he put in to that.”
