THE FIRST group of Burnley taxi drivers to complete a new training programme have been honoured at a presentation ceremony.

More than 100 drivers who went through the driver training programme with Burnley Council and Burnley College were presented with new-style driver badges at a ceremony at Burnley Mechanics.

The course, which is compulsory for all Burnley taxi drivers, trains drivers in a variety of areas such as disability awareness, taxi regulation and legislation, drug and alcohol awareness, conflict resolution and vehicle care and maintenance.

Coun Roger Frost said: “Burnley Council recognises what a difficult and sometimes challenging job taxi driving can be. I’m impressed by the commitment shown by these drivers and am sure that the skills they have learned on the course will help them to deliver a professional service and ensure the safety of passengers and the drivers’ themselves.”
