ONE of the friends of murdered nurse Jane Clough fought back tears as she said: “You can’t believe this would happen to somebody who was so nice.

“She was so pretty.

“I feel so sad for her family.”

Emma Sumner, 24, of Barrowford, said she became pals with Jane and her sister Louise when the Clough family moved to the area around eight years ago.

She said: “She used to go out with me and my brother Dave.

“We took them into Barrowford and introduced them to our friends.

“Jane came to my hen do in May 2008.

“We went to Newcastle and had a great laugh.

“We all went as old women!

“She was lovely.

“She was so kind. She would do anything for you.

“Jane was so close to her sister Louise, and to her brother.

“Louise will be so upset.

“She is from a lovely family and you just don’t expect something like this to happen.

“We will really miss her.”

A beauty therapist and lecturer at Nelson and Colne College, Emma said she had drifted apart from her friend since Jane met Jonathan Vass.

She said she had not seen Jane in person for up to a year, and had last communicated with her by text around two months ago.

She said: “Everything seemed fine, like normal.

“I’ve not seen her for a bit.

“She hasn’t been out with us since having her baby.

“We haven’t seen her since she has been with him.”
