WATER firm United Utilities is ‘well positioned’ for the next five years, according to bosses.

The company, which supplies water to the North West, held its annual meeting in Manchester on Friday.

Investors were told that the firm could push on after agreeing new price limits with water regulator Ofwat.

United Utilities chairman John McAdam said: “Despite a tough price review, we believe that with the group’s consistent focus on its core activities, we are well positioned to meet the challenges of the new five-year regulatory period.”

Earlier this month, United Utilities revealed that eight East Lancashire reservoirs were not being used despite the region’s driest spell for 80 years.

The firm said water quality at the sites was too poor to use.
