BURNLEY defender Danny Fox was caught driving at more than 110mph in Scotland, but blamed it on the excite-ment of signing for the club.

Fox, 23, was banned from driving for six months, and fined £600, at Lanark Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to careless driving.

The Scottish international left-back was stopped by police on the M74, in January, as he headed south for a medical at Turf Moor.

He had been charged with dangerous driving after being clocked at 110.6mph, but the Crown accepted his guilty plea to the reduced charge.

English-born Fox, now of Winsford, Cheshire, spoke to confirm his name.

The court heard that the January transfer deadline was only 48 hours away when Fox was caught. His lawyer said: “He was hyped up by the excitement of this medical and the fact he was going back to his home area to play professional football.

“He was due to be in Burnley at 4pm that afternoon, but that was no excuse for driving at 110mph.

“He realises he shouldn’t have driven at that speed and has learned a very serious lesson.”

Fox had been playing for Celtic after signing for them in July last year, but within months was told he was surplus to requirements at Parkhead by then boss Tony Mowbray.

He was sold to Burnley on January 29 for an undisclosed fee, where he has made 14 appearances, scoring once.

He featured at under-21 level for England, but qualified for Scotland through his granddad.

Fox made his debut for Scotland in the 3-0 defeat to Wales last November.
