POLICE in Rossendale are investigating a distraction burglary which took place in Stacksteads.

An elderly woman was targeted by two conmen who claimed there was an electrical emergency in her house.

Despite the homeowner asking for ID, the men entered the house, saying they needed to check the electrical points, before stealing cash.

The incident took place between 1.30pm and 2pm on Monday.

Police said one of the men was a young white male with a smart shirt and tie wearing cotton trousers with big pockets and buttons and blue woollen gloves.

The second white male was young and also wore a shirt and tie.

A silver or white vehicle was seen in the area around the time of the burglary.

Police warned residents to always request identification and to call the company given to confirm if staff are carrying out work in their area.
