BURNLEY’S new mayor, Coun Tony Lambert, has spoken of his pride as he begins his civic year at the town hall.

Retired policeman Tony, who represents Trinity ward, will serve with wife, Brenda, as his mayoress for 2010-11.

Coun Lambert, who has battled ill-health over the past 12 months as deputy mayor, has named the haematology and chemotherapy unit at Burnley General Hospital, the North West Air Ambulance, and Burnley Play Association, as his chosen charities.

He praised outgoing mayor Coun John Harbour’s ‘firm but fair’ approach to marshalling council meetings.

His chaplain will be Cliviger and Worsthorne vicar, the Rev Keith Henshall.
