THE MOTHER of a seven-year-old boy said that his life would be transformed after the Lancashire Telegraph helped them to win a long-running battle with the council over parking.

Sarah Green, 25, applied for the bay in Hereford Road, Whitebirk, Blackburn, for her son Logan who was diagnosed with the muscle-wasting condition Muscular Dystrophy when he was just four.

But Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council refused to install the bay, telling Ms Green that she would have to wait until Logan’s disability benefits were reviewed in February next year when his health would also be assessed.

Ms Green argued that his health was steadily deteriorating and the parking bay would need to be fitted soon as it was proving difficult to transport him from the car into the house. She said she was left with no alternative but to contact the Lancashire Telegraph to highlight the case after trying to get the bay for 16-months.

And after we contacted the local authority, the council has decided to grant her wish.

The full-time mum of five said she felt relieved and happy.

She added: “I have felt like they just didn’t want to listen and they just gave excuses after excuses.

“It will be so much easier to get him from the car into the house.

“It isn’t very good that I had to go to the press before something was done.”

Adam Scott, director for regeneration and environment at the council, said: “We are going to provide a disabled parking bay for Sarah Green.

“This is a case where we feel we should set aside the usual rules to help the family.”
