MORE than 150 people have signed a petition against plans to open a takeaway in a former clothes shop in Accrington.
Ian Steinberg, who made the planning application, said the premises, in Whalley Road, would open from 4pm to 11pm and would employ four people.
A previous plan for a restaurant at the site was refused in February due to concerns over ‘unsatisfactory car parking’ arrangements.
Neighbouring businesses and residents have submitted four letters of objection and one includes a petition with 151 signatures.
Hyndburn Council’s environmental health department has raised no objection in respect of impact on residential properties or in terms of potential smells.
And the council said the development would not unduly alter the mix of shops and other businesses in the ‘secondary town centre’ area.
The proposal will be discussed by Hyndburn Council’s planning committee, chaired by Coun John Griffiths, next week.
