PENDLE residents were given a chance to pose their climate change and wildlife questions to four parliamentary candidates at a hustings debate last night.

Labour's Gordon Prentice is defending a 2,180 majority, in the marginal seat targeted by Conservatives as a key battleground in the run-up to May 6.

He debated with Tory candidate Andrew Stephenson, Liberal Democrat hopeful Afzal Anwar and Graham Cannon on UKIP at the Question Time-style event at Barrowford Civic Hall.

The ‘question and answer’ event was organised by the RSPB.

There are further Pendle hustings coming soon with Building Bridges Pendle organising two debates.

Mr Prentice, Mr Stephenson, Mr Anwar and Mr Cannon will be joined by the British National Party’s James Jackman.

The first Building Bridges Pendle debate takes place in Nelson at Christ Church, Carr Road, on Tuesday with a second event in Barnoldswick at West Craven Technology College on Thursday.

And Get Out and Vote, an initiative set up by British Muslims to ensure the Asian population take part in the elections, has arranged a similar debate at the Silverman Hall, Nelson, this Sunday from 3.15pm.
