BOOKS of condolence have opened for victims of Saturday’s air crash which killed Poland’s president and a number of other top dignitaries.
The books will be placed in Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s town hall as a mark of respect to the victims of the crash of a Polish Government plane near Smolensk in Russia.
Polish President Lech Kaczynski was among 96 people who died when the aircraft crashed in heavy fog while trying to land at Smolensk airport. The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Coun James Hirst, said: “This is a tragic event.
“There are many in the borough with ties to Poland who will be feeling shock and sadness, but I am sure many more will wish to express their sympathies to the Polish people and the families of the crash victims.”
The town hall is open from 9am and 5pm Monday and Friday and 9am to 11.30am on Saturday.
