RIVAL councillors in Burnley who caused controversy with their voting records are at the bottom of an attendance league table.

Coun Zaheer Ahmed, a Labour member for Daneshouse with Stoneyholme, was present at two out of nine meetings, giving him a 22.22 per cent average.

And Coun Jonathan Gilbert, Conservative councillor in Whittlefield with Ightenhill, was present at eight out of 24 sessions.

Both have avoided automatic de-selection by attending meetings at least once in a six month period.

Neither will stand again in the 2010 polls.

Only two other councillors – Conservative Cosima Towneley and Labour’s Wajid Khan (Daneshouse), achieved less than 50 per cent attendance.

Tory group leader Coun Peter Doyle and Coun Paul Reynolds each achieved 100 per cent ratings for 2009-10.

Eight more racked up 90 per cent ratings or more and nine had 80 per cent or better, according to figures released at a full council meeting.
