A BLACKBURN actress has been left blind in one eye after being 'glassed' in one of Manchester's top bars.

Charlotte Davies, from Feniscowles, who has appeared in Coronation Street and Hollyoaks, said she had been left traumatised by the attack and fears she will have to give up her TV career.

The 25-year-old said she had gone out for a friend’s birthday with her boyfriend Marcus when one of her pals got into an argument with a woman at the Living Room, Deansgate.

The former St Bede’s High School pupil said she was speared in her left eye with a broken wine glass after going to help her friend who was arguing with the woman in the toilets.

The woman ran off following the attack and despite shouts from Charlotte’s friends she was not stopped by the bouncers.

Charlotte then fell unconscious in the bar before being rushed to Manchester Royal Eye Hospital but doctors were unable to restore her vision.

She said: "They were arguing and I just asked her to stop and leave my friend alone and then she started hurling abuse at me and she dropped her glass and picked up the ball of it and threw it in my face.

“I was just really shocked - it went straight into the corner of my eye and I knew had been blinded.

"There was blood everywhere and I couldn’t see - it was terrifying.

"I am devastated and absolutely gutted.”

The former student at Accrington and Rossendale College had just auditioned for a part in Shameless.

She added: “It is unbelievable that someone would do such a thing and I have lost all my confidence.

"I am going to have to re-assess everything in my life because I’ve only got one eye.”

Charlotte, who works with children from difficult backgrounds at a pupil referral unit in Preston, spent 13 days in hospital on morphine.

“The pain is so bad that I can’t even wash my hair and it is just devastating because I’m never going to see again.” she added.

She is currently at home recovering and is due to start a degree in psychology at Glamorgan University in September.

She added: "It has been my dream since I was very young to become actress and TV star. But now my dream could be finished.

"I just don't know how to come back from this. I have lost all my confidence.

"I don't know what the future holds. I'm trying to take day at a time."

David Khan, general manager at the Living Room, said the bar was reviewing its procedures.

He said: "This has shocked us all and our thoughts are with the victim and her family.

"The safety of our staff and customers is our utmost priority and we’re fully reviewing our procedures to make sure we provide the safest environment possible."

"At present the majority of our glassware is made from glass that shatters.

"We are looking to extend this and are considering alternatives across the rest of our glassware range."

"We’re reviewing procedures and increasing the number of door staff particularly in peak times."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester police, said: “Police were called to the venue at about 10pm on 27 March 2010, following reports a wine glass had been thrown in a woman's face.

"A 25-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment to a serious eye injury.

"A 20-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed until May 2, pending further inquiries."

Witnesses are asked to call Grey Mare Lane CID on 0161 856 3540.
