PLANS to convert a former petrol station into a car park look set to be approved by Hyndburn Council.

Workers and shoppers at Oswaldtwistle Mills have been using the former Badge Brow Filling Station, Union Road, Oswaldtwistle, for the past year without planning permission.

And after complaints from local residents bosses at the company have now submitted an application to use the piece of land as a staff car park.

They have also agreed to pay £30,000 to install a pedestrian crossing across Union Road at the site after a request from Lancashire County Council.

Oswaldtwistle MIlls already has several car parks in the vicinity and has pledged to keep this facility for staff only, to pacify residents' fears that there will be a large number of vehicles moving every day.

Hyndburn's Brent Clarkson said that the application will see a new fence built along the boundary with Badge Brow and further landscaping will aim to lessen the impact of the car park on neighbouring properties.

A decision on the plans will be made on Wednesday.
