POLICE were today going through a statement from the sister of murdered Nazia Ahmed to see if she can throw fresh light on the killing.

Detectives spoke to 20-year-old Shazia Ahmed for the first time yesterday after her family broke the news that 23-year-old Nazia was dead.

Today one of Nazia's brothers, Waseem, was due to make an emotional appeal for information on the whereabouts of suspect Zameer Ahmed, 26, Nazia's estranged husband.

Zameer has not been sighted since Nazia was stabbed to death and Shazia severely wounded at about 1.30pm on Saturday at the family home in Shear Bank Road, Blackburn.

Both sisters were rushed to Blackburn Royal Infirmary but Nazia died shortly afterwards.

Shazia has undergone surgery for her injuries but the family did not tell her the tragic news on the advice of doctors.

She has now been told Nazia died and has given police a statement about the attack.

Meanwhile Waseem, 26, was expected to face a press conference today to make a fresh call for information about Zameer, who worked as a chef and married Nazia in an arranged marriage in 2002.

On the morning of the murder a large family gathering was held at the house for Waseem, who was due to fly to Pakistan that afternoon to visit relatives. Waseem immediately returned home after the tragedy..

Nazia's body has not yet been released to the family for burial as a second post mortem has been carried out.

Police are considering placing wanted posters around the town in the coming days in a bid to trace Zameer, who officers said would have left the scene covered in blood.
