THOSE older and former residents of Helmshore who enjoy a look back in time may be interested in seeing their town from half a century ago.

For two full-length colour films focusing on Helmshore in the 1950s have now been transferred to DVDs, following three recent BBC 1 programmes about them.

The Lost World of Aspin and Pilkington told how Chris Aspin and the late Derek Pilkington, founders of the Helmshore Local History Society, made the films in 1958 and 1959.

When first shown they played to packed houses as villagers went to see themselves on the screen and were as popular when screened on television, A BBC spokesman said each programme attracted around a million viewers and described the public response as 'fantastic'.

Because the programmes had brought a big demand for copies, the films have now been transferred to DVD.

Each is priced at £10 and available from Chris, of 4, East Street, Helmshore, Rossendale, telephone 01706 2271290.
