A 19-year-old Longridge man attacked his mum because she hadn't done the housework, a court was told.

Blackburn magistrates heard that David McMaster punched her about the head and face and only stopped when she said she was going to go and wash the pots.

And Lynda McMaster later told police it was not the first time she had been assaulted by her son but she had never involved the police before.

"I tried to put on a front but I am scared of David and I don't want him back in the house," she said.

McMaster, of Jeffrey Avenue, pleaded guilty to assault and was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

A condition of bail is that he does not contact his mother.

John Wood said Mrs McMaster had been having trouble with David over the past year.

She said he had become increasingly aggressive towards her and as well as taking doors of hinges had punched holes in doors, smashed ornaments and thrown furniture around.

"He seems to completely lose his temper," she said.

On Monday she was at home with David when he asked to use the downstairs shower but she said he couldn't because it wasn't finished.

"That seemed to put him in a bad mood and he followed his mum into her bedroom," said Mr Wood.

As he entered he banged the door into his mother's back and then shouted at her to "get some jobs done" before unplugging her TV.

He then pushed his mother before punching her on the back of the head.

He said Mrs McMaster sat on the bed and her son began to hit her about the head and face.

He stopped when she said she was going to do the washing up but came down after her and had another go.

"When she told him to leave her alone he threw a dust pan at her, hitting her in the back," added Mr Wood.

Daniel King, defending, said his client pleaded guilty on the basis that he had slapped his mum across the back of the head and not punched her.

"He concedes there are anger management issues but they only seem to involve his mother," said Mr King.
