BLACKBURN businesses are leading the way in a county-wide ambassador programme to help bridge the gap between the world of work and school for children.

Blackburn Council and Capita and are the first organisations to sign up to Lancashire Education Business Partnership's (LEBP) programme.

A LEBP spokesman said: "By 2013 four in 10 of Blackburn's 14 to 19-year- old students will undertake vocational learning as part of their education.

"Now, more than ever, employers' involvement, both nationally and locally, in the education system is crucial to the successful development of tomorrow's employees."

He added: "LEBP has developed an Ambassador Programme to help to recruit and support the increasing number of employers who will be working with and developing young people to ready them for the world of work."
