A Blackburn man has been jailed for six years for a sex attack after the victim's ordeal was recorded when she dialled 999 on her mobile.

During the 22-minute call, the woman named her attacker as 34-year-old David Eastwood.

Preston Crown Court was told the 34-year-old woman was working as a prostitute and Eastwood paid her for sex. He then raped her and subjected her to sexual indignities.

Eastwood, of Stirling Drive, Blackburn, admitted raping the woman in the early hours of May 14 last year at his flat. He will be on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

Judge Edward Slinger told him: "This was a serious rape and terrifying offence for this woman." He added: ""Prostitutes are entitled to the same protection as is any other woman."

Miss Heather Lloyd prosecuting, told the court the woman had known him when she was younger, but he did not recognise her as she had lost weight.

After the attack Eastwood told her it was not rape because she was a prostitute.

The woman realised her lip was bleeding and asked for a tissue.

While Eastwood got one she was able to call 999 on her mobile. She could not speak as Eastwood was not gone long enough.

A communications officer heard her distress but there was no response to questions.

The operator could hear cries for help and it was clear there was a sexual attack.

She begged and pleaded for Eastwood to stop and at one stage she thought she was going to die.

Police were called and Eastwood was arrested at 5am. He said sex had been consensual. Afterwards he went to sleep and denied any aggression.

After the tape of the call was played to him, Eastwood claimed the voice was not his. It had been faked and wrongly attributed to him.

Ahmed Nadim, defending, said Eastwood had spared the woman from giving evidence.
