BURNLEY MP Kitty Ussher and the man who investigated the cause of the Burnley riots attended a major conference to discuss progress since 2001.
A new report, Burnley 2006 The Real Story, highlights concerns over segregation, low wages, deprivation, poor educational attainment, and problems in the housing market, as well as saying new disorder was a risk.
But it also stresses that the town was making progress, and highlights positive things which are being done to address issues like community cohesion, such as faith and youth groups working to bring communities together.
The report has been produced by Burnley Action Partnership (BAP) and was discussed at Burnley Football Club yesterday. Speakers included Lord Tony Clarke, who chaired the Task Force into the disturbances, representatives from the voluntary and faith sectors, and business and agencies working in Burnley.
Burnley was rocked by three days of riots in June 2001 when more than 200 white and Asian youths rampaged through the town.
