MORE than 500 pupils are expected to attend workshops to teach them how to keep safe over the summer holidays.

Children from Ribble Valley will meet firefighters, police officers and youth workers to learn important tips to keep them safe over the summer. The Streetwise project takes place from June 26 to June 30.

Key themes include knowing how to keep safe on the roads, buses, when swimming, railways and playing sport.

First aid courses will also be given.

A spokesman for Hyndburn and Ribble Valley NHS Primary Care Trust, which has helped to organise the scheme, said: "The aim of Streetwise is to teach pupils about safety in a bid to reduce the number of accidents suffered by school-age youngsters. The pre-summer scheme hopes to make Ribble Valley school children streetwise and safe."

Anyone requiring further details about the event should contact the care trust via Clitheroe Health Centre on 01200 425171.
